How did you get started in the salon industry? Please tell us about the courses you have taken?

It all began in the year 2000, i was recruited by Wella to be a part of their national technical consultant team in Mumbai.. I was given the opportunity to be trained by Utta wolf as a colour specialist. I took up courses at Singapore classic Toni & Guy, master class in Macau by Paul Faltrick, most recent was Vidal Sasoon Toronto the ABC haircutting course.

What were the challenges back then and now? How do you overcome them?

My biggest challenge was working from home with no professional equipment and business plan but I overcame this hurdle with my knowledge about hair treatment and the ability to understand what my friends, family & customers desired.

When and how did Pink Tree Salon came into being? What was the inspiration behind it?

PinK Tree was inspired by my mother Lana Lin and twin sister Sylvia chen who are running their own successful salon in mumbai. Pink symbolizes creativity,femininity and freshness and TREE symbolizes growth strength and stability combined together is “Pink Tree”.

How do you drive smooth salon management?

Its all about personalization from client interaction & communication to recruiting my team at Pink Team. My presence there 7 days a week helps enables us to sort any challenges we face with our clients and also our team.

What are the points one should keep in mind while designing a new salon?

Hygiene, atmosphere, spacious, functionality and location.

How do you focus on hiring and training for your salon?

I believe its easier to train then to change once work habits so we look for eager, fresh and new learners who’s efficiency and deliverance is to the tee.

What are the brands (hair, skin, etc) offered by your salon and how do you zero down on choosing the brands for your salon?

In hair we have Wella, Moraccan, Biotop, GK Keratin, Cysteine In skin we have Skyendor.
 
I personally have to be convinced before I can even offer these products to my clients. So undergo trial runs and demos before launching it.

How do you define success?

Client satisfaction is the most important goal we strive for at Pink Tree!!

What are the current trends for the season?

– Hair colour: face contour coloring( ash blonde)
– Hair cut: symmetrical bobs
– Hair style: Triple barrel curls

What are your views on the salon and beauty industry in India?

In the last decade the hair salon industry has grown substantially and this is no more a luxury but a lifestyle.

What is your advise for newcomers in this industry?

Make your work your passion and passion your work!!

What are your future plans?

Like any other company growth is always in the business plan, so yes we will be expanding soon.
